Jane Birkin is a matronly British woman living on a dusty, desolate farm in Cape Province, South Africa, with her indifferent father, Trevor Howard. Suffering from an emotional breakdown, Birkin kills her father when she discovers he has seduced Nadine Uwampa, the wife of John Matshikiza,
