The second sequel to the rip-roaring FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996) is actually prequel set in the Old West, and reveals the back story of both the Titty Twister bar and its sultry headliner, Santanico Pandemonium. About-to-be-hanged bad man Johnny Madrid (Marco Leonardi) escapes the hangman (Temuera Morrison) thanks to would-be outlaw Catherine Reece (Jordana Spiro), a crack shot who severs the rope so he can escape. Johnny kidnaps the hangman's beautiful daughter, Esmerelda (Ara Celi), as insurance and rejoins his old compadres, including best friend Joaquin (Kevin Smith). They rob a stagecoach carrying missionary couple Mary and John Newlie (Rebecca Gayheart, Lennie Loftin) and tart-tongued, hard drinking writer Ambrose Bierce (Michael Parks), unaware that the hangman has already mobilized a posse to rescue his daughter. Everyone eventually winds up at the raffish La Tetilla del Diablo inn, where Razor Charlie (Danny Trejo) is already ensconced behind the bar and the ladies have a predatory air that will be familiar to fans of the first two films. Though a minor effort, this picture improves on its predecessor, 1999's FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 2: TEXAS BLOOD MONEY. Co-writer Alvaro Rodriguez is the cousin of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN director Robert Rodriguez. leave a comment
