This film bears no relation to 1968's NEVER A DULL MOMENT in content or quality. Dunne is a female songwriter who meets western rancher MacMurray at a rodeo in New York. They fall in love and she goes back to his place, where his two daughters, Wood and Perreau, welcome her. An easterner by birth, Dunne tries very hard to adapt to this rough life, but she makes every mistake that the writers can dream up, including the accidental death of a prize bull owned by crusty neighbor Demarest, the man upon whom MacMurray depends for his water. MacMurray's foreman, Devine, adds a little humor but most of the film's gags are predictable and, thus, unfunny. The songs were written by the author of the novel upon which the screenplay was based and they are just fair. The tunes are "Once You Find Your Guy," "Sagebrush Lullaby," and "The Man with the Big Felt Hat." None of them was memorable, although novelist-songwriter Swift is credited with having written some of the best popular songs of her era, including "Can't We Be Friends?" "Fine and Dandy," and "Forever and a Day." leave a comment
