What Alan Ladd and director Young (Dr. No) are doing in this cheap Italian costume action film is a question both men must have been asking themselves during its production. The company couldn't even come up with the money promised Ladd until another production company jumped in during mid-shoot. The story is based on the Roman legend of the Horatii and Curiatii triplets, sort of Hatfield and McCoy blood feudists. Ladd plays Horatio, a Roman soldier who becomes the only survivor when the triplets finally fight it out to the death. The film is so bad that a US distributor couldn't be found until 1964. It disappeared quickly with the audiences lamenting "Come back, Shane." leave a comment
