Director Leone, who created a new form of western (THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY; ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST), focuses on the Mexican revolution. Coburn is a fugitive Irish revolutionary, and Steiger wants to use Coburn's explosives expertise to get into a bank vault. The vault turns
out to be full of political prisioners rather than gold, and Steiger becomes a hero for setting them free. Well-plotted action, but as in most of Leone's films scenes seem to have been deleted from the American prints.
