1950, Movie, NR, 98 mins

Typical MGM Musical with lots of singing, dancing, skiing, swimming, and color. Lund is a very rich playboy whom Raymond adores. She's his secretary and her main job appears to be saving Lund from the advances of obvious fortune hunters. Williams would like to help Raymond achieve her goal, so she makes a play for Lund (the theory behind that being that Raymond will again leap into the fray, rescue Lund, and he will begin to realize how much she loves him). After a few mixups, door slams, and "I'll never ever talk to you agains," we fade out with everybody in each other's arms. Very predictable but fun. Williams plays a swim star and Johnson is a bandleader (which allows for lots of music). Horne looks beautiful, and Powell came out of retirement to tap her way into our hearts. One remarkable point: with so many songs, anyone but the most fastidious musical film historian would be hard-pressed to remember any of them. Songs:"Baby Come Out of the Clouds" (Lee Pearl, Henry Nemo), "You Can't Do Wrong Doin' Right," "Let's Choo Choo to Idaho," "Of All Things," "Or Was It Spring," "Warm Hands, Cold Heart" (Al Rinker, Floyd Huddleston), "Singlefoot Serenade" (G.M. Beilenson, M. Beeby), "You Won't Forget Me" (Kermit Goell, Fred Spielman). leave a comment
