Disappointing attempt at making the famous Madame into a sympathetic character. This picture was loaded with melodramatics, lots of hambone acting on the part of most of the cast, and hardly any wit at all. Talmadge and the rest attempt varying degrees of French accents and none of them work. Talmadge is found in a pond by Nagel, who later becomes her boy friend. She next becomes a hostess in a gambling casino. From there, the next logical step is, of course, a cushy job as the king's mistress, and it ends when she and her lover die. The rest of the picture is a series of scenes attempting to recreate the French royal scene, but most of the shots are mediums and close-ups so there is no sense of grandeur or majesty. Slow-moving and tedious. leave a comment
