The Canada Film Board's first feature film is a small but well done production. Initially written for television, it is the story of Douglas, just back from the Boer war, who finds little that is rewarding in his clerk job and moves his family from the city to the country in 1907. He
faces the usual farming problems but in time becomes a successful wheat farmer. Disaster strikes in the way of a drought that destroys most farmers, including Douglas, who dies before the rains come. With new hope, his wife vows to rebuild the farm.
