There are two movies going on here at once--one about the activities of the patrons of a rural Texas drive-in and the second a movie within a movie at the drive-in. Lemole, the local beauty, is trying to break up with gang leader Milliken to go out with shy Morshower. Milliken controls all gang activity from a waterbed in his van. He not only watches the movie on the screen but also "Ozzie and Harriet" reruns on a TV set in the van. Morshower's brother wants to watch him and Lemole in action. Meanwhile, Perkins tries to force an engagement ring on his girlfriend--then he meets the shapely Franks at the concession stand. There are two patrons plotting to rip off the theater, a nervous black couple in a sea of rednecks, and a volunteer vigilante, who turns Mom on to pot. The best laughs come from the movie within a movie--a 747 crashes into a burning building of TOWERING INFERNO magnitude, there is an earthquake, and a dam break causes a tidal wave that capsizes a passenger ship. Hilariously corny dialog and stock footage cleverly satirize disaster films. leave a comment
