A young Natalie Wood (she was nine years old at the time) plays an orphan adopted by pharmacist Brennan. She becomes entangled in the lives of most of the people in a far West town ravaged by an epidemic of spotted fever. Jagger plays a doctor trying to fight the fever. The film works well
until people start dying, and then it spins off into melodrama. Brennan and Wood give fine performances, and John Alton's cinematography is superb.
