Drift -- Drift was filmed under water, a metaphor for the drowning reality of dementia. The poem attempts to reach a point of equilibrium, an acceptance of what is and an element of peace in what is to come. 'Drift' began as an exercise to come to terms with my father's vascular dementia diagnosis. I had a sense that we were both drowning, my father with the disease, and me as I failed to comprehend losing him. I looked to the Internet for answers and found numerous sites on the technical horrors of the disease process. I also found a wealth of information for caregivers, plus blogs for caregivers to share their stories and sorrows. I found very little for actual sufferers of cognitive damage. I eventually found the Center for Brain Health in Dallas Texas, an amazing collection of practitioners and researchers. Their focus is the individual not the caregiver. Their point of view stems from a believe that no matter how far the disease has progressed, the core of the individual is still present. The focus on what s present not what has been lost. Drift is a poem about the isolation and loss associated with dementia, but also acceptance and a comforting awareness that what ever comes is OK.

Watch the short film Drift. Drift is motion images that illustrate the relationship between time and emotion. Time commands and regulates people with infinite force. It causes lifeless people to have desire to escape from their situation. They drift and agitate in their emotion. But time pushes them forward and forward without waiting toward one direction, future. People creates variety of emotion in the limited time but that emotion is in turn washed away also by time.

The Drift -- A shared house, the occupants pass by each other like ghosts. The impossibility to communicate in the modern city is played out in one Victorian terrace. It is a film of drift, of the eternal return. It is a film of small gestures.
