With Columbia's success in making opera singer Grace Moore a movie star, RKO got the most popular opera star of the time, Pons, to star in I DREAM TOO MUCH. RKO pulled out all the stops for this production in an attempt to outshine Columbia and Moore, but, even with Fonda as the leading
man, the film is just a minor effort. Husband Fonda pushes his wife, Pons, into a singing career. She's reluctant but tries and becomes a big success. This sours Fonda, a struggling opera composer, and Pons uses her new-found influence to get Fonda's opera turned into a successful musical comedy.
