The second "Dragon Ball Z" movie to be released in the US in the wake of the success of the Japanese animated series on US television, THE TREE OF MIGHT pits Goku and his super-powered entourage against an alien attack on earth.
Aliens led by Master Turles of the Saiyan race come to earth to plant the seed for the Tree of Might, which then grows rapidly, destroying cities and forests in its wake. The tree is designed to soak up the nutrients of earth in order to produce the fruit that will give Turles and his cohorts
enough power to rule the universe.
Goku, a Saiyan who has moved to earth and raised a family, leads his entourage of super-powered warriors, including Piccolo, Krillin, and his son Gohan, in battle with the aliens. After an initial defeat, Goku calls on the power of the earth and all living things to summon up enough energy to
create a "super spirit bomb," which enables him to send Turles hurling into space and destroy the Tree of Might, restoring life to planet earth.
The second of three "Dragon Ball Z" movie spinoffs released on video in the US in 1998, this one boasts enough action, martial arts, and spectacle to vastly entertain its adolescent (and younger) male audience. Others may need a score card since the film relies heavily on audience knowledge of the
extensive back story, particularly Goku's alien origin. (Violence.) leave a comment
