Downstairs

This would-be corker that never gets off the ground failed to relaunch John Gilbert's career in the sound era. Having once been a treatment writer, Gilbert penned the scenario for this film about the carrying on of a baron's servants. Gilbert is the rogue chauffeur who blackmails the cook to finance his affair with Bruce, the butler's wife. Bruce became Mrs. Gilbert after this production, a marriage that lasted two years.
