A good mixture of light comedy and typical British whimsy make HIS DOUBLE LIFE a humorous film. The story concerns an English painter, Young, whose death is mistakenly reported. His valet is buried in his place, and Young is able to attend his own funeral at Westminster Abbey. He is thrown
out of the cathedral for sobbing too loudly at the honors his fellow countrymen have heaped upon him. Soon after he marries an attractive, no-nonsense spinster, Gish. Young starts to paint again and when his new works surface, the art world is in a furor and a scandal ensues. In a courtroom
sequence, two moles on Young's neck identify the dead painter as still among the living.
