This sappy biography of an early show business star features producer Jessel (as himself) trying to find out about Eva Tanguay's background so he can make a movie of her life. He interviews those who knew her best, and the episodes are supposed to congeal into one story. They don't. The
film remains flat and is little more than a singalong. Several songs have nothing to do with the plot and mar the good performances by Levant and Wayne. Gaynor is a human dynamo, but never stops for an instant to allow us to get any feel for the character she is portraying. Jack Cole's production
