Film adapted from the play "The Naked Genius," written by Louise Hovick, the real name of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, which makes the subject matter understandable. The story tells of a stripper, Blaine, who wants to make it on Broadway. She undergoes "refining" when her boyfriend/manager,
O'Keefe, decides that's what she needs to succeed. They hire a ghostwriter to do her autobiography, to give her the publicity and respect needed to put her on the Great White Way. However, things get messed up as the writer, Dunne, falls for her. O'Keefe gets jealous and tries to hold up the
production of Blaine's show, but things work out in the end.
