It's a simple comic structure: Take a group of misfits, throw them into an unorthodox setting, then have them rebel against some overly repressive authorities. The inane POLICE ACADEMY films used this structure to parody the right side of the law; DOIN' TIME takes the prisoners' point of view. Jeff Altman is arrested after sleeping with the governor's wife and sent to the John Dillinger Memorial Penitentiary. The new warden, Richard Mulligan, begins a series of prison reforms that cut down on the fun and games Altman and his cronies had been enjoying. Eventually Mulligan's changes go too far, and the fun-loving guys decide a little revenge is in order. DOIN' TIME is as wretched as they come, filled with numerous unfunny gags that follow the expected sexual, scatological, and foul-mouthed route. leave a comment
