Doctor Faustus

1967, Movie, NR, 92 mins

This is exactly what one might expect from a Burton-Taylor version of the 16th-century Marlowe play. The story of a man who sells his soul to the Devil seems to have been made only for their mutual entertainment. Directed with an unsure hand by Burton, it was filmed in conjunction with Oxford University, his alma mater, casting students from its drama department. This is extremely unskilled cinema from a talented stage actor. leave a comment
