Disorderlies

1987, Movie, PG, 96 mins

A curious comedy that is simultaneously an embarrassment and throwback to the days of Three Stooges-style slapstick, DISORDERLIES is worth seeing simply for the novelty of 83-year-old Hollywood great Ralph Bellamy sharing the screen with three obese black rap performers called "The Fat Boys." Albert Dennison (Bellamy) is a wheelchair-bound millionaire whose slimy nephew Winslow (Anthony Geary) is aching to inherit his fortune. When he finds three beefy orderlies who've been fired from the "worst nursing home in America," Winslow figures their incompetence should be the end of Uncle Albert. There's not much to DISORDERLIES--just a lot of slapstick pratfall. Unfortunately, director Michael Schultz tries to make The Fat Boys act--something they just can't do very well. For some inexplicable reason they are only allowed to sing one song--a cover version of The Beatles' "Baby You're a Rich Man." DISORDERLIES is harmless enough but will probably disappoint those who expect to hear The Fat Boys brand of rap music. leave a comment
