DIRTY WORK
starstarstarstar
Unceasingly vulgar and sporadically funny, this revenge comedy rests heavily on the shoulders of former SNL wiseacre Norm Macdonald. Mitch and Sam (Macdonald and Artie Lange) have been best pals since they bonded in the face of childhood bullying: Sam was tubby and Mitch was a wussy smarty-pants. Now they're grown-up losers, Sam's horny old dad (Jack Warden) needs a heart transplant and his doctor (Chevy Chase), who's got a pack of bookies baying for his blood, promises that... read more leave a comment

Nothing puts a damper on your workplace Halloween festivities quite like an imminent firing — although I do have a fun story about a woefully interrupted Chrismukkah luncheon I should probably save for another forum. It's a credit to this show that in the midst of all my chuckling over Dwight's costume and the unfortunately vacuumed-up party decorations, deep down I was pretty darn nervous about possibly losing one of these characters. Which is why that cliff-hanger of a commercial break that made it look like Jim was on the chopping block led to this living-room scene: me staring slack-jawed at the television and demanding aloud, "So help me, Michael Scott, if you fire Jim I will storm out of this office so fast it'll make your head swim." Howard Stern's Sidekick Mouths Off

Wise guy Artie Lange is on The Howard Stern Show every day, joking about hard drinking and heavy eating, because in Artie's world, nothing is ever done "light." The 37-year-old sidekick began his career as a Mad TV cast member and soon moved to movies (Dirty Work) and back to TV (ABC's Norm). Lange's new DVD It's the Whiskey Talking (out today) documents his expletive-filled live act and proves that, even when the comic is flying solo, he's always got something intriguing to say. TV Guide Online: How much Jack Daniel's was consumed during the making of your DVD?Artie Lange: I'd say about four carafes. Honestly read more
