Trade in a Spielberg space alien for a Yamaha motor bike, keep the special effects on the inexpensive side, then assume filmgoers under age 12 are morons, and what you get is THE DIRT BIKE KID, an innocuous and wholly forgettable effort aimed at the preteen set. Billingsley is an independent youngster who lives with his mother (Bloom). Billingsley spends $50 of what was supposed to have been grocery money and throws in his bicycle for a mud-caked dirt bike. His mother is understandably angry, although it turns out he got quite a deal. This dirt bike is magical, gunning its engine to speak and flashing its big eyelike headlights. Viewers might want to watch this with a checklist to keep track of numerous lifts from E.T. The film's other big problem is that it's just plain stupid. leave a comment
