A visually stunning comedy about the inhabitants of Dimboola, a small Australian town, and an English visitor. Gillies, a newsman for the London Times, arrives in the town to write a story and finds that his trip coincides with a much-anticipated wedding. In drag, he sneaks into the bride's wedding shower, then he attends the stripper-laden stag party. A delightful assortment of characters are featured, including the groom's mother who fears that a past affair may also make her the mom of the bride. An introspective look at life down under, which draws parallels to the work of Peter Weir (PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK; THE LAST WAVE). The spindly Spence outshines his supporters and would appear later in ROAD WARRIOR. leave a comment
