Vampires are alive and well and living in modern-day Los Angeles in TO DIE FOR. Vlad Tepish (Brendan Hughes), who turns out to be not just a vampire but the infamous Vlad the Impaler, falls for Kate (Sydney Walsh), girl friend of realtor Martin (Scott Jacoby). Taking up residence in a castle-like house Martin has found for him, Vlad makes a play for Kate, but soon finds himself in lustful competition with his violent housemate, Tom (Steve Bond), another member of the undead. With very high production values (especially the art direction), decent acting, and commendable direction (by Deran Sarafian), TO DIE FOR is better than the average horror film. Unfortunately, it remains run-of-the-mill in its overemphasis on graphic violence and gory special effects. Had the filmmakers spent more time developing a sophisticated story, TO DIE FOR might have been a more engaging movie. leave a comment
