A lavish British epic centering on two lovers, Brook and Carroll, in 18th-century Denmark. Brook is a medic who attends a drunken king in Hamburg. The king brings the doctor back to Denmark to live a life of royalty. It is here that he meets the Queen, played in a plebian fashion by Carroll, and they fall in love.
