Based on the 1921 novel by French author Radiguet, which influenced the 1947 Autant-Lara film LE DIABLE AU CORPS, this Bellocchio-directed film caused something of a scandal among European audiences with a short but graphic oral-sex scene. Orion Classics decided to release the picture to US art houses with an MPAA rating of X.
