Screenwriter Martin Wheeler seems to have glued together sequences from
rejected screenplays and called the resulting paste-job a "globe-trotting thriller."
Former-CIA specialist Sonni Griffith (Wesley Snipes) is now a mercenary, risking his life in global hot spots while telling himself he’s going to retire. After a tip-off blows his armament sting in Romania, Griffith reluctantly agrees to help old crony Michael Shepherd (William Hope), who suspects that local crime boss Joszef Bostanescu (Tim Dutton) might have a high-ranking American official tucked away in his pocket. Could it be Shepherd's new superior, Mr. Finch (Michael Brandon)? Bostanescu's newest international plot involves selling a stolen biological weapon, and such a connection would expedite matters significantly. Meanwhile, Bostanescu's Manhattan-based absentee accountant gets his throat slit for dipping into the till and his Nadia (Silvia Colloca) rifles his safe and returns to Romania with its contents. Naturally, Uncle Sam would like her to help them nail Bostanescu, so Shepherd hires Griffith to act as her bodyguard. Griffith eventually learns that Bostanescu has kidnapped Nadia’s son, and that she's agreed to divulge vital bank code information she's memorized she's to ensure the child's safe return. Despite Sonny’s precautions, Nadia falls into the conscienceless Bostanescu's. As Bostanescu stalls his clients at a sports stadium, waiting for Nadia rattles off the Swiss account numbers, Griffith attempts a rescue mission. But remains in the dark about Bostanescu’s American insider, and may not be able save Nadia and her son.
What can you say about a star vehicle in which the star's voice-over narration is dubbed by another actor? That sort of technical sloppiness is the calling card of director Leong Po-Chih, whose motto appears to be, "If you can’t be good be loud." --Robert Pardi
