This inferior remake of the thrice-filmed Max Brand novel was directed by George Marshall, who had done the definitive version in 1939. This time Murphy is the gunless lawman bringing order to town, and Blanchard is the wildcat saloon singer whose fight with Wickes provides a much needed
high point. In skimpy dance-hall costumes, Blanchard also sings some romantic numbers.
