A taut, expertly directed suspense thriller from William Wyler, in which Humphrey Bogart, in his second-to-last role, comes full circle: He plays a part nearly identical to his character in 1936's The Petrified Forest, and does so with a vengeance. Busting out of prison with kid brother Dewey Martin and massive, mentally challenged Robert Middleton, Bogart and Co. take refuge in the middle-class home of Fredric March, where they proceed to terrorize his family.
