More of the EVIL DEAD antics gorehounds lapped up in DEMONS, with a dash of THEY CAME FROM WITHIN for flavor: Almost all the action takes place in "The Tower," a high-tech, security-conscious building that becomes a trap when demons rear their scaly heads. High-strung Sally (Coralina Cataldi Tassoni) is having a birthday party, but she's in a mood about everything from her dress to the guest list, so she locks herself in her bedroom and watches a horror movie while her guests drink and dance. Soon enough, the horror movie's cast are exploring a graveyard where demons once roamed, and soon enough one of the creatures is reanimated. Then it marches straight toward the screen, and forces its way into Sally's room... you can imagine the rest. From Sally's apartment the demons soon spread throughout the building; their acid blood eats through the floors and destroys the wiring, shutting off the lights, the elevators, the telephones and any hope of getting help from the outside world. Various tenants try to fight off the monsters: a pregnant woman whose husband is trying to make his way back to their apartment; a little boy left alone while his parents are out; a woman whose fluffy dog makes the mistake of sampling some demon blood; a bunch of gym rats trapped in the basement. Few succeed. It's all more of the same: If you liked DEMONS, this is a second helping that even features some of the same cast. Argento buffs take note: The director's daughter Asia plays an unfortunate adolescent named Ingrid. leave a comment --Maitland McDonagh
