A pleasant surprinse on two fronts: Both the script and Sylvester Stallone are actually very funny. Throw in a star-making turn by Sandra Bullock, and you've got a fun, futuristic adventure that deftly blends big-budget action with tongue-in-cheek humor. By the year 2035, it seems L.A. will have become virtually violence-free. So when ultraviolent bad guy Wesley Snipes escapes from the cryogenic prison that has held him in limbo for the past 40 years, the LAPD retaliates by defrosting the only thing capable of stopping him: anachronistic, crime-fighting Sly.
