1973, Movie, PG, 132 mins

This second in a series of Ely Landau-filmed stage plays for a subscription sales system is an unfortunately stiff, dull, and extremely stagy screen adaptation of Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a collapsing Connecticut family that is pushed to the brink when old friends drop by to visit. Hepburn and Scofield play the couple that must put up with the former's alcoholic sister, Reid, and their 36-year-old, four-time divorcee daughter, Remick. Cotten and Blair play the old friends who arrive at the wrong time. Eventually the intruders leave, and Hepburn restores the family to its "delicate balance." leave a comment
