British director Tony Garnett's American debut is a scathing attack on macho cowboy ideology. Pretty, innocent, Boston-bred Kathleen Sullivan (Karen Young) comes to Texas to teach. Larry Keeler (Clayton Day) is a lawyer obsessed with guns and violence who attempts to rape the new teacher.
Overcoming her squeamishness, she takes pistol in hand, becomes a crack shot, and goes out for revenge. The second half of the film becomes confused, driving away any converts the first half might have made.
