The plot that reads like a compendium of recent crime movies: An undercover narcotics cop (Laurence Fishburne) who begins to lose sight of which side he's on; a smuggling ring protected by diplomatic immunity; and a corrupt political system that greases the wheels of organized crime. The pleasant surprise is that screenwriters Michael Tolkin and Henry Bean have injected intelligence and wit into the story, fleshing out the moral dilemma of a man who is forced to kill and deal drugs in the name of justice.
