This lame anthology links three fairy tales with a framing story in which a little boy (Brian DePersia) who can't sleep because he keeps seeing monsters in his dark bedroom is told scary tales by his uncle (Michael Mesmer), who is upset over having to miss the Nude Miss World contest on cable TV. In the first story, "Peter and the Witches," a sturdy young lad sold into slavery as a child is the lackey of a pair of hideous witches. The next story, "Little Red Runninghood," concerns a nubile high-school girl who stops by the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for Granny. Unfortunately, the package is mixed up with that of a young man who needs powerful sleeping pills to keep him from becoming a werewolf during the full moon. In "Goldi Lox and the Three Baers," Beresford "Papa" Baer and his idiot son, Wilmont "Baby" Baer, break out of the loony bin and head to their old house, now occupied by Goldi Lox, an escaped fellow lunatic with telekinetic powers. Miserable production values plague this film, shot over the course of four years in upstate New York and Connecticut. Director Jeffrey Delman makes his debut, and, although the press kit notes that his grandfather's cousin was legendary movie music composer Bernard Herrmann, it appears that talent is not hereditary. The film does have some wacky humor going for it, but comedy is not what horror film fans are after. They look for jolts, special effects, and edge-of-the-seat tension, none of which are in evidence here. leave a comment
