Delorme is a young woman who turns up on chef Gabin's doorstep one day and tells him that she is the orphaned daughter of the wife he divorced many years before. He takes her in and eventually marries her, although she is carrying on with Blain, Gabin's best friend. When he finally discovers her affair, he begins looking at her with murderous intent, while she begins looking at him and Blain with a similar gaze.
