Deadhead Miles

1982, Movie, NR, 93 mins

If you wonder why George Raft looks so good in this 1982 picture when he had died two years before, it's because Paramount sat on this very strange picture for more than a decade before releasing it. Told episodically it follows former trucker Alan Arkin as he steals a semi; picks up a hitchhiker, Paul Benedict; and hauls black-market building materials to pay for his cross-country trip. An extremely literate script, some hilarious sequences, and a number of cameo performances (including one by director John Milius) combine to make DEADHEAD MILES an unusual but entertaining film with an existential bent. leave a comment
