Williams returns to his boyhood village in Wales in the hope of buying out the entire district for use in a water-reservoir project. This is his own revenge against the village which had him exiled as a thief. Due to resistance from Evans, he fails at his land deal, so he tries to burn the village down. He is stopped by Burton and killed in a fight. Evans then floods the village herself to conceal Williams' body, protecting her stepson, Burton.
