David Copperfield

Hallmark Entertainment’s ambitious two-part adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel ranks well above previous attempts at translating this captivating story to the small screen. Though the acting is a bit uneven, director Peter Medak manages to craft the elaborate plot, character, and visual elements of Dickens’s semi-autobiographical tale with a deft and compelling hand. British newcomer Hugh Dancy brings a seething emotional timbre to his portrayal of Copperfield, thankfully veering away from naïve one-dimensional interpretations seen in other productions.
