This import tells the story of a motley group of laborers who travel up an Argentine river to work on a Paraguayan tea plantation. Here the workers, both men and women, are put to slave labor and are beaten at the bidding of one man who claims, "I am the boss." Of course, they can only take so much; after Benetti is raped, Laxalt is savagely lashed, and several other workers are killed for minor infractions of discipline, the workers, led by del Carril, form a union and rise up against their oppressors. Del Carril, who is also the producer of the film, ends up escaping with Benetti downriver, where they start a new life for themselves. (In Spanish; English subtitles.) leave a comment
