This appears to be an attempt to tailor material to the strong screen presence of Tamiroff, who was having a fairly successful career at Paramount as an unsavory, mysterious foreigner with a heavy accent. The film has Tamiroff as the hero-gangster who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
