1961, Movie, NR, 82 mins

This better than average sci-fi film was the last picture directed by veteran helmsman Dwan. Randell stars as a framed convict who accidentally walks into a cobalt blast during his escape from prison. He survives the explosion only to discover that he is rapidly turning into a man of steel, impervious to bullets. Seeking revenge on the men who framed him, Randell goes on the rampage and destroys everything in his path despite the best efforts of the police to stop him. Eventually he is killed by a member of the National Guard who burns him into dust with a flamethrower. Surprisingly compelling, THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN ALIVE was shot in Mexico in 1958 and was not released in the US until 1961. German director Wim Wenders has his fictional film crew remaking THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN ALIVE as a backdrop to his indignant look at the politics of movie-making in THE STATE OF THINGS (1982). leave a comment
