A couple of would-be ballroom dancers meet by chance but soon decide to try to make it as a team. They start dancing in some lesser clubs, but get a big break and make it into a hot joint. The two are a hit, but are torn apart by his groundless jealousy of a rich man's attention toward her. However, there is a happy reunion after he has hit bottom trying to go it alone. The Dunn-Eilers love team began in 1931 with BAD GIRL, which was based on a best-seller from the era and won Oscars for that film's director, Frank Borzage, and its writer, Edwin Burke, who went on to script DANCE TEAM. Both Dunn and Eilers were colorful Hollywood characters, alcoholics whose drinking habits gave them wobbly reputations. Eilers was particularly acid-tongued when in her cups and given to notorious foul language. A visitor to the MGM lot once mentioned to studio head Louis B. Mayer that Carole Lombard had the filthiest mouth in movieland. Mayer replied, "I guess you never heard of Sally Eilers!" leave a comment
