Dark, haunting, kitchen-sink noir, based on a true story and deftly done. Miranda Richardson stars as Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged for murder in England. Ellis, a divorcée, ex-hooker and "hostess" in a tawdry Soho nightclub, falls obsessively in love with an upper-class cad (Rupert Everett).
