A vampire thriller minus the thrills, DANCE OF THE DAMNED starts with the ominous-looking vampire (Cyril O'Reilly) stopping in at the seedy Paradise Cafe just as lithe dancer Jodi Hurtz (Starr Andreeff) is flinging herself around the stage to climax her act. Offstage, Jodi is a rather sad case; forced to work, she has missed her son's birthday and, in the process, provided her ex-husband with further grounds to win complete custody of the youngster. Left to lock up the club after closing time, Jodi bumps into the vampire who has lingered behind and offers the stripper $1,000 and a proposition. DANCE OF THE DAMNED has the makings of a good pursuit drama--perhaps a fanged variation on THE TERMINATOR--unfortunately, director Katt Shea Ruben and co-writer/husband Andy Ruben attempt to present a cross-species romance. But generally, DANCE OF THE DAMNED is the worst type of picture to undertake with a B-movie budget and cast--a terrifying two-headed talkathon. Even under the best conditions, movies of this sort are tricky to pull off and, to put it kindly, DANCE falls far short of the mark. leave a comment
