Daisy Miller as a book is a good read, but the film by Bogdanovich is truly a dud in spite of handsome sets and an intelligent writing job. James is, to say the least, hard to adapt for the screen, but this job becomes hopeless because of Shepherd's shallow performance as a woman who
flirts all over Europe in the late 19th century and finally dies of malaria. The 23-year-old actor Brown also wrote on film. Four years after the release of DAISY MILLER, he was dead, a suicide. Furness' costume design earned him an Oscar nomination.
