Outstanding performance by Ferrer won him an Oscar and is central feature of film adaptation of Rostand by Brian Hooker. Essentially, the property remains stagebound; it is not well directed, nor does it seem to have had a decent budget. It is hampered by unimaginative backlot settings and lacks the flair color would have helped supply.
