In this Italian-made, derivative jungle adventure, Blount plays a journalist whose investigation of a cocaine ring turns up a photograph showing a colonel (Lynch) beside an airplane being loaded with cocaine. Research reveals that the former Green Beret became the right-hand man of the Reverend Jim Jones and the engineer of the Guyana Massacre, in which he too was believed to have died. With this proof that he is still alive, Blount takes off for South America with a cameraman (Mann) where they run into murderous Indians before running into Lynch. The film wears its influences on its sleeve, and Lynch is so similar to Marlon Brando's Col. Kurtz in APOCALYPSE NOW that one expects Lynch to lapse into a bad Brando impression at any moment. Blount comes through the film with her dignity relatively unscathed, but the same cannot be said for the others. The jungle settings are convincing, however, and the swarms of blowgun-toting Amazonian Indians appear to be the real thing. leave a comment
