The writings of H.P. Lovecraft have inspired some memorable recent horror films, most notably those of Stuart Gordon (RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND). But that's certainly not the case with CTHULHU MANSION, which announces its dubious credentials right away by announcing that it's "based on
the writings of H.P. Lovecraft." Writer-director Juan Piquer Simon's last straight horror film, SLUGS, was rather schlocky but at least appeared to hew fairly close to its literary source (the Shaun Hutson novel); this one doesn't even seem to be trying.
