Though it looks good, and the acting is passable, CRYSTAL HEART is done in by too much sentiment. Christopher Newley (Lee Curreri) is a young man confined to a sterile environment due to a genetic inability to produce natural immunities. His parents are fabulously wealthy, so his surroundings are equipped with a variety of electronic gizmos. In his solitude, Christopher writes fan letters to Alley Daniels (Tawny Kitaen), a rising young pop queen. Eventually they meet and fall in love, though Christopher's enclosure seems to preclude physical contact. If it were just mawkish, CRYSTAL HEART might have been entertaining in a campy sort of way. The story is wholly ridiculous, but the performers are good looking and earnest. Kitaen, a stunning redhead, appears to have some acting ability, as does Curreri. However, their scenes together are pure soap opera. CRYSTAL HEART simply isn't much of a story, so plenty of padding is added in the form of numerous rock videos, none of which is particularly original. Ultimately, the film bores more than it entertains. leave a comment
